I had this Ressa skin from The Skinnery sitting in my invy for a while, because I couldn’t wear it on my curvier av.  The face is well-done, but I think it has such unique features that it goes better with smaller avatars.  It also has a great range of shading, but doesn’t look that great nude.  If you examine the genitals… well just don’t use it for anything other than fashion, because the vag looks more black than it does pink.  I think it’s because a contrast filter was used to adjust the skin’s values and ended up sort of backfiring.

It takes a lot to make a skin, and I don’t down anyone for trying.  I especially give props to people who do so from scratch.  It’s very tempting, when you’re starting out as a skinmaker, to buy a template and add on your take from there.  A lot of people do it and they do it well–I don’t mean to insult those who do.  But for those of us who insist on making everything 100% original, it can be a longer road to travel, and often times the only reward can be our own satisfaction.

Bottom line, you should watch The Skinnery as an up and coming place for hand-drawn skins, for the obvious work and quality its maker puts into improving each product.  They are worth the support, even if their skins aren’t perfect.  One day, they will be.
